THE bEAR presents an PRISONER - stories of captivity

  • Theatersaal im Zentrum 50 Danziger Straße Berlin, BE, 10435 Germany (map)

I never saw a man who looked With such a wistful eye Upon that little tent of blue Which prisoners call the sky. - Oscar Wilde

JOIN us for an evening of prepared, TRUE STORIES with live music, lively audience interaction

Storytellers are exploring the idea of captivity, sometimes in the most unexpected ways.

Prepare a 5-minute true, personal story about a memorable immobility:

stuck in mud, frozen in time, an indecisive fog; caught in the wrong body, family, relationship, country, job; chained to your phone, your passion, your puppy; captivated by beauty, greed, lust; hitting ceilings on your career ladder; stuck behind borders real and imaginary; afraid to make “the” move; right situation but the wrong mindset; Covid-induced captivity, a night in jail, a day locked out…

TIP: the human brain rewards happy endings with a shot of dopamine in our bloodstream giving us a feeling of pleasure. Does your character stay captivated or finds a way out?

If you would like feedback on your story before you hit the stage: hello@THEbEAR-storytelling.de

At the end of the evening, the audience chooses their Favorite story and this storyteller is invited to the annual Eve of the Champs on June 21, 2024 at the historic Theater im Delphi.

If you’ve got a story, we got a stage!

EVA GOELLNER

I have a trilingual soul and I’m happiest when I can speak German, English, and Spanish. If possible, simultaneously. I’m also interested in the space between. Between meals, between relationships, between stories. Because that’s where we heal and learn.

JAMES HARPER

is the creator of award-nominated podcast Filter Stories, a show that uses our morning coffee as a lens to understand the world.

His narratives explore history, science and sustainability, and he writes the piano music that underscore the stories.

His podcasts have been heard hundreds of thousands of times, and he has produced narrative podcasts for a wide array of clients, including Porsche (Driven Minds), Duolingo (Spanish Podcast), World Coffee Portal (5THWAVE), Specialty Coffee Association (World Coffee Championships), and others.

Growing up half Italian in Sydney, he’s lived in Hong Kong and Rome and began his career working for the Bank of England in 2009. However, his passion for coffee was simply too strong to resist, and in 2016 moved to Berlin to become The Barn Coffee Roaster’s Wholesale Manager, and then in early 2018 hopped on a flight to Guatemala to dive deeper into the world of specialty coffee as a documentary podcast producer.

When he is not traveling around the world, James generously accompanies storytellers at THE bEAR adding another delicious layer to our evening.
